PSYC 3315: Psychological Thinking Project Proposal Assignment Paper Due On Blackboard on Thursday, December 10th at 11:59 PM Goal The goal for this assignment is for you to proposal your own scientific psychological study. This course teaches students the reasoning behind the methods used in psychological research. This assignment is your opportunity to practice your skills of developing a research question and using previous research to design a study to answer that question. Assignment You will write a 1000-word paper that proposal a scientific psychological study. The topic of this proposal will be the same as your literature review that you completed earlier in the semester. In this assignment, you must state the research question you are attempting to answer, create a hypothesis that is a possible answer to this question, and a methodology for testing the hypothesis. Each of these things should be grounded in previous research. Your paper should include the following sections.Title Page The title page includes the title of the paper, the names of the authors (only you!), and other pertinent information. The title page does not count towards the word limit. Abstract The abstract should be a short summary of the content of your research proposal. The abstract must be between 100 and 150 words. The abstract does not count towards the word limit. Introduction The introduction should be the section in which you state your research question and hypothesis, as well as the explanation for them. You do not need to re-review the literature, but you should refer back to the previous research you discussed in your literature review. Your research question should be clearly stated and have the potential to be answered by your proposed study. Your hypothesis should be a potential answer to your research question. Hypotheses should be specific. Be sure to justify each of these. Methods The methods section should describe precisely how you will test your hypothesis. Your methods section should be written in the future tense, as it is a study that you will do. State what your variables are and how you are operationalizing them. State who your participants are and how you will recruit them. State what your procedure is and how you will collect the data for your variables. Provide sufficient detail so another researcher could run your study just from your Method section. Include a Participants sub-section: Who will serve as your participants? Where and how will you recruit them? How many will there be? Include a Procedure sub-section: What materials (e.g., questionnaires, equipment, stimulus materials) will you use in your study? What is the flow of events in your study? If you design an experiment, be sure to describe exactly how you will manipulate your independent variable(s), what your dependent variable(s) will be, and how you will measure your dependent variable(s). If you design a correlational study, be sure to describe exactly what each of your variables are and how you will measure each one.  Conclusion: At the end of your paper, include a conclusion section that explains the meaning behind your study. Assume that you find evidence to support your hypothesis. What does it mean for our understanding of psychological theory that your hypothesis would be supported? Reference Page The reference page includes a list of all sources cited in your paper. Each source should be listed in APA style. You should cite some of your previous articles, but here is no need to cite all of them again. The reference page does not count towards the word limit.
