Huckleberry Finn can be considered an historical novel, in that while it was published in 1885 it takes place in America before the start of the Civil War (1860); that is, before the end to slavery. I have two landmark Supreme Court cases I’d like you to look up, which are:
1. Dredd Scott v. Sandford
2. Plessy v. FergusonPlease describe how the Dredd Scott case is related to Huckleberry Finn. Second, please describe how Plessy was related to race relations when the ruling was delivered, and, in your opinion, is/ isn’t related to race relations in the US now.
As you’ll see from the enclosed attachment, after providing a snapshot of the publication history of the book I also included some reviews and one argument that the book should not be taught in schools. You should be far enough along in the reading (darn it, you better be!!) to offer a glimpse into your own assessment/ review of the book (3-5 sentences, or more, if you like), along with some stirrings of opinion of whether or not the book should be censored in a public school.
