There is three question below, I need to choose one and write about it that’s all
1. Compare what Wheatley has to say in her poems about “Africa” and slavery, and what Freneau says. Describe, for both, their position in relation to slavery and to prejudice, and try to explain the reason for their different (public) expressions. You will have to discuss Wheatley’s situation–as a still enslaved woman.
2. Discuss the image of the Native American painted by Freneau in his “The Indian Burying Ground”. Is it just the stereotype of the “noble savage”, and if not, can you cite and explain where a recognition of shared humanity takes place, something that’s not just some stereotype? (I’m not saying it’s there, or that it’s not–up to you.) If you are unfamiliar with “noble savage”, look it up; the internet will tell you quickly.
If you want to pursue this into the 20th century, read this article, from a professor at Ole Miss, in 1953–he allows two options for the Native American; he is either a noble savage, or someone who massacres whites (pretty unbelievable, huh). http://www.jstor.com/stable/3043342
3. Reread the Narrative and Jefferson’s note “On Slavery”. Imagine that you’re Jefferson and you’re asked to respond to Equiano’s account, which you just read for the first time. You have to address the growth and career of Equiano, his skills and intellectual capabilities, and his literary style. Two things: you have to try and sound like Jefferson, and you may admit you were wrong (you know you were).
