In some people opinions, the right of naming became a means of identifying whether a woman is a donkey. Does she have a child of her own? In fact, this is a strange view. They separated stubborn blood, genes, love, etc., and strongly emphasized the family name. The latest discussion about naming rights comes from a reality show.In the recently broadcast variety show “Daughters’ Love”, the actor Jin Sha’s father said when he introduced himself: “I am Jin Sha’s father, my surname is Wu, and my daughter is the mother’s surname.”A male host made such an introduction too embarrassing. Why he uses embarrassing or why he think that is embarrassing. When are we talking about when we discuss the name right?

Background: History/Modern

Does the right of naming a child belong to the husband or the wife? In fact, the right of naming does not belong to a specific man or woman at all, but is subordinate to the family bloodline, and the traditional society maintains the community of interests of the big family. In the era of individualism where the family is increasingly atomized, this power has long lost its practical role and has become a continuation of a cultural imprinting machine. The earliest “surname” was a means by which a primitive tribe knew one another. At that time, people had not yet established a society of universal trust, and people outside the tribe were heterogeneous people who were difficult to cooperate and trust. Shared painted symbols, common worship totems, circulated stories, and recently produced “surnames” are all ways members of various tribes confirm each other’s identities.

Later, the ancient surname evolved into a big family’s trick to establish themselves as a community of interests. In many historical eras, only aristocrats have surnames but common people do not. This is the same in Europe, China and Japan. The reason is that nobles often have to compete with other noble families and divide wealth based on blood relationship, while common people have poor wealth. Cultural inheritance makes this long-term strategy that requires collective planning by the family unnecessary.

In modern China, in order to control population growth, the Chinese government has issued a detailed family planning policy, that is, a couple can only have one child. This kind of policy has intensified the contradiction regarding the right of naming. Both spouses, as their respective family representatives, hope to have a child to inherit their family.

Interviews

Interview is an important method no matter for this paper, but for the ethnography. I interviewed men and women from different ages. The oldest is 80 years old, and the youngest is my brother and his friends, 18 years old. In fact, by far, what shocked me most was not the answer to the question.A large number of people directly asked me what the significance of your research on this subject is. They told me in a contemptuous, compassionate manner that what you did was meaningless. Some people will say that it really becomes strange for girls to read too much. Age and gender dividing line. Older people and men often refuse to answer my questions. They think it is absurd.In other words, having a child with the mother’s surname is a shame.During the interview, I asked a lady (42 years old), what would you do if your daughter-in-law proposed that the prerequisite for giving birth is that the child follows the mother’s surname. She answered me very seriously, I will let them break up or divorce, and I cannot accept that my son has such a wife. And she told me directly that she didn’t want her son to fall in love with or marry a girl like me. She said, you are an excellent girl, but your thoughts are a bit out of tune with us.One very interesting thing is that everyone will advertise their main point of view is equality between men and women and respect for women. However, when I ask the final question, would you mind your son/daughter use their mother’s family name, the answers always are No.

Conclusion

In fact, until now, I am not optimistic about the equality of men and women in title rights. This inequality is essentially the inequality of the status of men and women. In the long-term development of patrilineal society, they require and need women to live by men. The child is not considered to be an independent individual, he or she is also the property of the parents. Possessions have no right to speak.
