Article Analyses, create parenthetical citations

Article Analyses (2): Students will demonstrate their mastery of the four functions of management by completing a series of article analyses in which they read the article, summarize it, create parenthetical citations (3 or more styles in each article), discuss implications and include a reference list at the end of the analysis essay (3-5 pages each, excluding title and references pages, APA Style).

In this assignment, you will learn to identify scholarly articles (based in the U.S.) and their parts. Read the article (hint: you should do so several times). Review the tips and instructions on conducting an article analysis in the Article Analysis Instructions section of the Start Here module.

You will need to conduct research for most of the courses in your program. The article analysis helps you identify scholarly articles and understand some of the things you should look for while completing the assignment. The goal of this assignment is to help you to locate, recognize, and synthesize scholarly research. You will have a chance to explore the virtual library and its databases as well. Make sure you review the article analysis instructions and rubric.

In this assignment, you will learn how to locate scholarly articles and identify the parts of a peer-reviewed research article. This assignment also provides some tips you can use to check your work after completing the assignment.

This exercise contains six paragraphs and six main questions you need to consider while completing the assignment.

A Template for the Journal Article Summary

Here is a suggested format for your assignment:

Paragraph One: Include an introduction to the paper by describing indicating what the research is about. Tell the reader what the focus of the research is and state the hypotheses or research questions.

Paragraph Two: Identify the subjects and the procedures used in the study.

Paragraph Three (and possibly Paragraph Four):  Present the variables and how each was measured.  Be specific.  Identify the name of the measurement and a brief description of each.

Paragraph Five: Discuss the results of the study.  Did the data support the stated hypotheses?  Use the results and discussion section for this.

Paragraph Six through Eight: Critique the study.  Specify what was done well and what could have been improved.  Some other questions to answer include:

Was the research valuable?

Was the study practical/helpful? To whom?

Was the study done ethically?

Should more research be done in this area?

To whom do the results of this study?

What should be the next step to be in this line of research?
