Article review

Even though the articles are from different disciplines, analysis strategy is kind of same. Because irrespective of disciplines, it is going to be either regression or classification approach.

[Some articles focus on data preparation, some on methods, some on caretEnsemble, some on making machine learning interpretable. Therefore, an article does not cover all aspects of data analysis. This is because journals have restrictions about the length of submitted articles (usually it cannot exceed 40 pages; double space, times roman 12 font). As researchers/learners, it is our job to fit different pieces together to carry out a successful data analysis.]

2. Objective of the article: – [you will find it in abstract/introduction of the article]
3. Skip Literature review section.
4. Source of data: – What type of data (cross-sectional, time series, panel/longitudinal, text, image/video etc.) is used in the article? What is the source?

Look for the following steps in the article & elaborate.

1. Splitting strategy?
2. Any Exploratory/Graphical analysis?
3. Data pre-processing steps: What steps were carried out? Is anything missing?
4. What machine learning techniques are used? Ignore mathematical explanations. Did they follow the outline given in page 79 of the book?
5. What criteria did the author(s) use for comparison among the models?
6. Findings/Contribution of the article: Try to summarize within 5 sentences.
7. Limitation/future improvement scope: Are they mentioned? If yes, what are they?
8. What is your overall impression?
9. Please provide Citation of the article: – [please use APA style; to do so in your internet browser type ‘google scholar’. You should see this –

Then copy the title of the article from the pdf version and paste it in google scholar. For example, if I copy and paste a randomly selected article such as “Extending monitoring methods to textual data: a research agenda” in google scholar, I get the following

Now if you click ‘cite’, you see the following; from where you should copy and paste the 2^nd paragraph [APA] in your document.

1. Now please mention about how many times this article has been cited so far in other journal articles. For example, from the following screenshot, you see that the article that I just selected for demonstration has been cited 7 times so far.
