Q.2) “You are asked to help decide what to do. You want to defend life, but whose life is most important? Can you justify abortion to save the mother’s life? What role does faith in God play ? Should this mother just trust God or take things into her hands or both?

The debates surrounding abortion have always been very sensitive and contriversial to discuss for many years. Those on one spectrum of pro-choice regard the value of reporductive freedom more highly than the value of fetal life, while the opposing parties are pro-life which supports the value of fetal life more than the value of reproductive freedom. When approached for advice on the matter, I believe in the word of the lord as it was written in 1 Corinthians 6:19 our body is a temple of God, and holy,” which translates to me as the right to choices over my body and the freedom to make the decisions that are right for me. I would guide this concerned mother to seek counsel from God for only He knows the answers above all. I strongly believe that any decision that this mother makes, she would have considered her six children, her life, and her unborn child. But in the end, she is the best person to make the final decision after speaking with the lord.

Something to consider here while you work through this tough scenario. I would say that she has 7 children that she cares for now at different stages of development (one still being in utero). Does the baby in utero matter less? Would we justify abortion if there were not 6 children that she needs to care for? Would you take a 70% chance to save a baby? As the result of abortion is 100% death, not 30% in this case.

Do decisions change and risks analyzed differently when you view a baby in utero as just another member of the family and should be protected as the others?

Considering this case my first thoughts go to Proverbs 27:1 (ESV), “Do not boast about tomorrow, for do not know what a day will bring”. The potential for survival is greater than the risk of death for this lady . As a Christian, I feel that we do not have the ability to change God’s plan for us. We are not promised tomorrow and this lady and her children could die from other causes before a decision even needs to be made. I feel this woman should continue living life as she always has doing her best to promote health in the remainder of her pregnancy.
