Cold War Films Then vs Now
In my research I have noticed that recent films that I have watched about the Cold War are more fiction than fact. Newer films focus more on audience entertainment than on historical accuracy. This phenomenon is a huge struggle for people who want historical accuracy over action. Over the course of the week, I have watched four Cold War movies. Dr. Strangelove (1964) and the Bedford Incident (1965) involved more references to historical events. Spy Game (2001) and the Coldest Game (2019) were more focused on action than realism.
I think that putting more realistic events and places into these historical films helps the audience understand more of what happened in American history. It also gives us a perspective on how life was during the Cold War and how gruesome war actually was. My purpose is to compare and contrast the Cold War movies to those made recently. What can we learn about the Cold War from these films? How has the portrayal of the Cold War in movies changed over time? My argument is why are older films historically more accurate. How do they make it more realistic and better for the audience? How has the Cold War changed in recent films and what have they done to draw the audience into it?

My purpose is to compare Cold War movies during the time of the Cold War to those made recently, with focus on the issue of historical accuracy.
