Developing a r Theoretical Framework

Every dissertation needs to have a theoretical foundation or a conceptual framework (or both) that is discussed in the literature review section. The theoretical framework will be the lens through which you evaluate your research problem and research questions. A theoretical framework is typically required for quantitative studies, while a conceptual framework is used in qualitative studies. Yet, both theoretical and conceptual frameworks can be used for either quantitative or qualitative studies.

200-word response to the following:

Consider the significance or importance of your study: why the study is a unique approach to the problem to be investigated, potential benefit/benefactors from the proposed study, and the ways in which the study results might make an original contribution to the field.

Problem and Purpose Statement

Improving confinement conditions and doing away with large young institutions for community-based correctional areas will positively impact youth development. Concentrating on the youth’s usefulness, influence, sense of competence, and belonging will improve these youths’ judgments. Accentuating optimistic views rather than highlighting the offender’s wrongdoings is the traditional deficit-based model (Glasheen, 2017).  Some delinquent adolescent behaviors do not necessarily merit intercession. Assisting the youths to recognize and own up to their actions rather than judging them and quickly detaining them will be a humane step. Youths whose behavior needs corrections can be taken to juvenile, yes, but the juvenile’s aim should ensure they improve their behavior for the better, not just confining them without good behavior training. Reforming the juvenile justice system to become rehabilitative, innovative, and divertive has not yet been fully implemented to the maximum (Rolnick, 2016).

How Purpose Statement Aligns with Problem Statement

Establishing a new juvenile justice system will solve the problems stated in the problem statement. Necessary steps to making the new system and making sure it serves its purpose are vital. The collaboration of the different sectors involved in the New York City adolescents’ development in creating a safer, more equitable, and fairer juvenile system will fasten improvement. With 70% of youths sent to juveniles having a mental illness, adding counseling sessions, psychological and developmental assistance, and foster care, will challenge youths not getting the help they are supposed to get in juveniles (Blakeslee et al., 119). The youths with mental illness exude symptoms of anxiety, aggression, and depression. Failing to rectify this illness will prove juvenile efforts to improve behavior, to be in vain. The people in juvenile but without mental illness might fail to improve their behavior because they are mixed with sick people who are not being helped improve.

A theoretical framework provides a structure for the logic of a proposed study.

It describes the variables and the proposed relationships between them.

Again, review the purpose statement, looking for key terms related to the study.

In this case, the key terms will include the variables and the instrumentation proposed to operationalize the variables. Here the key topics are personality and suitability for online higher education and the variables are socialization preference, self-motivation, and online education suitability. The instruments are the MBTI, more specifically, the Extroversion/Introversion continuum, to measure socialization preference and the Judging/Perceiving continuum to measure self-motivation and the Suitability for Distance Education survey.

Once you have identified the variables, review existing literature to identify hypothetical relationships between those variables if conducting a quantitative study.

The theoretical framework should describe the hypothetical relationships between variables and how the instrumentation will be used to measure the variables.

Be sure to include relevant germinal and current theories in the theoretical framework.

In the example, the key topics are personality and suitability for online higher education.

Describe theories related to personality such as the theory of psychological types and suitability for online education. The proposed instruments are the MBTI, more specifically, the Extroversion/Introversion continuum to measure socialization preference, and the Judging/Perceiving continuum to measure self-motivation and the Suitability for Distance Education survey. Discuss how these will be used to measure these variables.

Describe how the literature hypothesizes relationships between the variables which are socialization preference, self-motivation and online education suitability.

For example, one source that hypothesizes these relationships is Hall.
