Personal Reflection Paper Part 2
One of the objectives of this course is for students to reflect on their own sexual values, to hopefully gain a greater understanding of what those values are, where they come from, and how they can impact behavior and relationships. To meet this objective, you were required to complete a 2 part assignment. You already completed Part 1 at the beginning of the semester when you wrote about your opinions, beliefs, and/or values related to 5 sexuality topics. For Part 2, you will now reflect on what you wrote earlier this semester in light of the new knowledge you have gained in this course and the new perspectives to which you may have been exposed.
To complete this assignment, start by reading what you wrote for Personal Reflection Paper Part 1. After you have read and reflected on your answers at the beginning of the semester, you are ready to begin writing. To complete this paper you have four choices: (Note: You only have to do ONE of these options for credit)
- Choose at least one of the topics you discussed in Part 1 and describe how your thinking about that topic has changed over the course of this semester. How were your values/beliefs/opinions challenged and/or changed by what you learned/experienced in class? What specific experiences or information made you think differently about this topic? Do you see this change as a positive change or a negative one? How will your changed views affect your everyday life?
- Choose at least one of the topics you discussed in Part 1 and describe how what you learned/experienced in class helped you to think more deeply about that topic, even though you did not really change your values/beliefs/opinions. What specific experiences or information helped you to think more deeply about this topic? Are you now able to clarify the reasons you hold this value/belief in more detail? Are you more likely to have this value/belief actually match your behavior? How will your new deeper understanding of this topic affect your everyday life?
- Choose at least one of the topics you did NOT write about for Part 1 and describe how your thinking about that topic has changed over the course of this semester. Why did you not write about this topic at the beginning of the semester, but chose to write about it now? What specific experiences or information made you think differently about this topic? Do you see this change as a positive change or a negative one? How will your changed views affect your everyday life?
- Choose the topic/experience from class you found most meaningful (even it is not included on the list or is not something your wrote about for Part 1). Explain why you found this topic most meaningful. How does this topic relate to your life or an experience you’ve had? How will/does it affect your sexual attitudes, behavior, or decision-making?
This paper will be worth 10 points. To get full credit:
- Be specific and detailed in describing your experiences in class and the changes in your thinking that they brought about. Explain all of your answers. Be sure to refer to specific information from lecture or the book or specific activities or events from class when appropriate.
- Your paper needs to be5 – 4 pages in length. You may use single or double spacing – either is fine – but your paper must be either 11 or 12 point font
- Points will be deducted if there are more than 2 major typos and/or grammatical errors.
- You must submit your paper to the eLC dropbox before the due date/time.
- Late papers will lose one letter grade for every 24 hours they are late.
- Late papers will only be accepted for 5 days past the due date.
