Homework # 3 Assignment:
After reviewing PPTs in Module 5, Part II, the TEDtalk by Dr. Robert Lusting, and reading the
“Super-Sized Syndrome” article, please focus on the changes in our diet since the
hunter-gather phase of our evolution. Specifically, focus on changes in diet affecting
Type-2 diabetes.
Please be sure your assignment thoroughly addresses the questions listed below and
uses details from the paper and films to support your points, in your own words.
Please address the following:
1. Define homeostasis and explain why homeostatic systems in the human body are subject to dysregulation resulting in disease.
2. What factors have changed that make up our current diet? How do the factors of
diet (e.g., carbohydrates) affect Type-2 Diabetes?
3. What did you think of Dr. Lustig’s TEDtalk as pertaining to sugar, obesity and Type-2 diabetes? (In your discussion, please detail two points from Dr. Lustig’s lecture.)
