PICO(T) 2: Evidence Synthesis – (30% of grade)
The purpose of this assignment is to synthesize evidence retrieved in PICOT 1 and determine recommendations for the improvement of nursing practice. This assignment contributes to mastery of Course Objectives 2, 3, 5, and 6.
Directions: Students work independently to analyze PICOT 1 evidence for strengths and weaknesses and recommend a practice change. Grading of the assignment will be completed by section faculty in accordance with the grading rubric below.

Briefly summarizes the problem or limitations with current practice, PICO(T), and alternative intervention under study
Summarizes outcome findings of each study. Identifies key validity threats and implications.
2-page limit; 1-point deduction for review >2 pages
Describes similarities and differences of studies (designs, sample, methods, and consistency of findings). Identifies what is known as a result of the synthesis and the practice implications
What is not known from this body of evidence? Presents two research questions for future study.
Recommendation for Practice and Translation
Discusses evidence translation considerations, specifically for the topic under study, including the practice context for change, patient preferences, strength of the evidence
Identifies potential barriers to evidence translation, specifically for the topic under study, such as feasibility, ethical concerns, resources, risk/benefit to patient/organization
Makes and defends a recommendation w/USPSTF rating
Constructs a table of design, sample, data collection strengths and weaknesses of each study. Includes Melnyk leveling and Newhouse quality rating for each study
2-page limit; 1-point deduction for table >2 pages
APA New Times Roman 12 pt font (table single spaced, 10 pt font). Organized and clear writing, correct grammar, syntax. 6 -7 page limit, excluding title page, references, and Appendix
