This assignment will be based on your analysis of a policy implementation or policy change issue in assignment one. In this assignment, you will create a policy advocacy/change strategy that incorporates community practice and advocacy skills to address the policy issue identified in assignment one. Your strategy should use evidence informed organizing/advocacy skills that you believe will work in the context where you believe the advocacy needs to be targeted (Ex. Task force, coalition strategy, interprofessional organizing, etc.)
Problem Definition and Hypothesis – Restate concisely your policy issue and overall advocacy goal.
Brief Literature Review – Conduct a brief literature review of best practices to support your proposed intervention and the theoretical lens that you are taking. You should cite between 8-10 different empirical sources outside course materials, with a preference for sources that are less than 10 years old. Empirical sources may be journal articles, technical papers, and other empirical data sources.
Proposed Strategy Description
State the goal of your strategy (Whatever your overall change goal is based on assignment one).
Develop 3-5 different tactics you will utilize to achieve the goal.
Discuss how, when, and where your tactics will be delivered.
Consider whom your tactics/activities will focus on (stakeholders, residents, professional leaders, etc.). Consider the power differentials between different stakeholders involved and targeted. Consider whom will be allies or supporters, beneficiaries of the change, and those whom will likely oppose the change.
Provide your conceptual map/diagram – Describe what systems/subsystems were targeted for this policy change and why. Describe the major differences between your original conceptual systems map/diagram and the new version.
Create a Forcefield Analysis diagram of system forces working for and against your planned change intervention. Please rate the intensity of each of these forces using a scale that you create.
Based on your Forcefield analysis, does your policy/systems intervention have a high likelihood of succeeding? If so why? If not, discuss what would need to change in relevant systems so that your intervention could be carried out successfully.
Create a brief evaluation/monitoring plan based on your overall change goal. How will you go about evaluating whether or not your proposed systems intervention is successful or not.
Within this course you will be tasked with practicing professional writing. There will be elements of APA formatting (references in footnotes, and person first language), but largely you will be writing this paper in a professional voice as if you were submitting a report, not an academic paper.
1-inch margins; SINGLE SPACED, 12-point font with generous use of headings, and subheadings, underlining, italics, bold, font color, etcetera to draw readers attentions to Key
You can include bullets, tables, figures, you can do “word wrap” around items to break up large sections of “text” and keep the reader interested.
You will use footnotes for your references. In the footnote section (bottom of the page) use APA formatted references and make them the same font as the paper, just 8-point. You will NOT have a reference page if this is done correctly.
Not counting title page, the body of the paper must be at least 10 pages in length and 1 page for the conceptual map (12 pages total; title + body + conceptual map as an appendix).
