Reading Group homework as Illustrator and Cultural Connector

Read the book “The Fifth Season – N. K. Jemisin”. Do the Illustrator job for Ch.20-23. Do the Cultural Connector job for Ch. 12-15. These are two separate works. Give each work 1.5 pages. Make sure you follow all the job JOB DESCRIPTION:

Illustrator JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Responsibilities: o Select two or three THEMES from your section and examine how they manifest in the week’s reading. (they can be located in a small passage or can span the whole book). ▪ The themes can repeat from week to week, but your discussion of the themes must be original to you and focused on your assigned passage. o THEME (definition): A theme is an underlying idea that a writer repeats in his or her work. It is important not to confuse the theme of a literary work with its subject. “Subject” is a topic that acts as a foundation for a literary work while a theme is an opinion expressed on the subject. E.g., a writer may choose “war” as the subject of a story, while the theme may that writer’s personal opinion: war is a curse on humanity. • Written Work: o Type a good-sized paragraph for each theme, including examples (with page numbers) that illustrate where it is found in the text. Approx. 1 page.

Cultural Connector JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Responsibilities: o Nothing is written, or read, in isolation. Connect the reading (and its themes) to (a) modern society; and/or (b) other texts. “Other texts” can mean other things we’ve read in class, stuff you’ve read on your own, and/or stuff from popular culture writ large. (Some questions you can ask if you are stuck: How does this compare to the current fad of superhero films? How does it compare to prestige TV shows? How does it compare to your personal favorite media?) • Written Work: o Type a total of two or three paragraphs about how the text is relevant to (a) your life (i.e., modern society); and/or (b) how the text relates to other texts. Approx. 1 page • Be ready to explain why your group finds this text relevant, or irrelevant, in our world today. • If merged with Historian, write one or two paragraphs and list any further ideas. If these roles are merged, the total page count should be approximately one.
