In a properly-formatted Excel file named YourLastName_SQC, create a unique set of data as follows:
Type in these labels in Row 1, columns A through F: Sample # Item 1 Item 2 Item 3 Item 4 Item 5
In cells A2-A21, insert numbers 1 through 20.
Using the Random Number Generation Data Analysis Tool, generate five columns of 20 random values drawn from the Uniform [25,30] probability distribution, populating cells B2 through F21. Make sure your data set is unique by inserting a four-digit number in the Random Seed field of this tool’s pop-up window. Decrease decimal places to zero.
Name this worksheet Raw Data.
Open SQCpack (on campus in SH123 and SH252 or via VDI). You will need to save your Excel file to the VDI platform.
Create a New Chart, choosing x-bar and Range.
Click Next, choose Microsoft Excel as your Data Source, and browse to the location of your Excel file. Worksheet field should show Raw Data.
Click Next. For Sample #, Treat As “Identifier,” and for each of the other five columns choose “Measurement.” Set Rows to Use, Last n, n=20 (rather than the default 25). Click finish.
Choose Edit>Chart and a window pops open on the right.
Choose Display Options and click the box next to Sigma Zones. Close Chart Editor.
Save (Save As) your charts as YourLastName_SQC. Also save your charts as an image named YourLastName_SQC_x-bar_R.
Being certain you saved an image (picture) of your charts, click Edit>Chart Type and choose Histogram. Click finish.
Choose Edit>Chart and then Specifications>Add Specs. Change from the default “Date” to “Number,” enter 27.5 for the Target and then 2 in the (+-) field. It will calculate the upper and lower specifications for you.
In the Chart Editor, click Out-of-Spec and check Theoretical Out-of-Spec. Close Chart Editor.
Save the histogram chart as an image named YourLastName _SQC_Histogram.
Click Edit>Chart Type and choose Six-Way. Click finish.
Save this figure as an image named YourLastName_SQC_Six-Way. Note: you will need to explore a bit to define several of these charts and statistics.
In your Excel file, make a copy of the Raw Data worksheet and name it Revised Data.
In row 16, enter these values (overwrite existing) in columns B through F: 31, 32, 33, 34, 35. Save your file to the same location.
Back in SQCpack, change chart type back to x-bar and Range, click Next and change the Data Source to the Revised Data worksheet. Click finish.
Save your charts as an image named YourLastName_SQC_x-bar_R_rev.
In a properly-formatted Word file named YourLastName _ SQC, insert the four images in the following sequence and integrate a narrative that interprets each.
First, provide an overview based on the Six-Way chart.
Next, address the Histogram. Be sure to interpret all of the statistics provided in the Histogram chart. NOTE: you’ll need to review their definitions.
Then, discuss the original x-bar and Range control charts and
Finally, the revised x-bar and Range control charts.
Be sure you state conclusions about stability and quality supported by references to the appropriate charts and/or statistics.
Submit your Excel file, SQCpack file, and Word file – all unique and original – to the SQC Assignments Folder prior to the date/time due. Late submissions not accepted for grade credit.
