summary of the plays.
A clear, focused, thesis statement is essential to earning a good grade. Your thesis statement is the single idea your essay will prove. It is ONE sentence, placed at the end of your opening paragraph.
Follow the standard conventions for academic writing and format your essay’s pages according to MLA formatting guidelines. Consult the website Purdue Owl for proper MLA formatting information. You will find the information here:
https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_general_format.html
Note: In academic writing, you not use the personal pronoun “I.” If you find yourself saying, “In my opinion…,” just delete that opening phrase and use the statement that follows it as an assertion.
The analysis in this essay must be your own, and you must support your ideas with quotations from the two plays. You must have at least two quotes from each play for each point you make. That is a total minimum of 16 quotes for the essay. They must be accompanied by the proper MLA in text citation format. Failure to support your analysis with adequate quotes or to use the MLA format will result in a failing grade. Use of outside sources is prohibited for this assignment. To use another person’s ideas without giving her/him credit is considered plagiarism, which is a very serious academic offense.
Avoid a general, vague, meandering introduction. It should certainly be less than one page. Once you’ve asserted a strong, clear, thesis statement, you should then develop your paragraphs by beginning each one of them with a clear, assertive, topic sentence. It serves as the main supportive point upon which your argument depends, and it is the assertion that the paragraph it introduces will prove.
A rough draft or your Introduction, complete with your Thesis Statement, and followed by an outline of the major points the rest of your essay will make (a total of at least 200 words), is due by 11:59 pm on Sunday, November 22. You will post this on a Discussion page I will make available on Canvas. You will lose 5 points from your essay’s final grade if you do not post this by the deadline. No late submissions accepted.
Your paper must be at least 1,500 words in length, and no more than 1,800 words.
