Writing a report
You are expected to write a formal and thorough report on the case study in accordance with professional writing style expected of an engineer.
The report should also summarize the following:
A list of decision making processes (such as definition of the problem, goal/objective, collection of relevant data etc.) and the activities associated (such as minimize cost or employee time)
- Please list all your assumptions, because they will better inform the reader of your analysis. It is good to draw upon your work experience. Please see below my note on hiring.
- You can make reasonable assumptions about hiring. One realistic approach is to say we expect hiring to increase, say between 10-20%. Perform your analysis for both, 10 and 20% increase. This will give you a more realistic solution to the problem.
- Examples of Assumptions made:
1) Manufacturing engineers will need the copier the most out of the engineers because they will be the ones who are making the parts on the computer and giving their designs to quality in order to allow the parts to be manufactured.
2) Employee’s on the factory floor won’t need the copier much because they will be mainly building the units, so besides the one copier for inspection already bought, one more should be purchased.
3) Purchasing will need to copy all of their purchases and put them into a database, for Audit purposes
Also:
- You may want to gather information regarding how many copies need to be made on a daily basis, are they collated, stapled. What percentage of printing is going to be in color? Copiers also act as scanners. What resolution is needed?
How fast is the copier going to work?
One central copier or many smaller units?
- The report should also summarize the following:

It should be a written report using a word processor.
