This assignment focuses on analyzing rhetorically – focusing on the ethos, pathos, and logos of an
argument. Rhetorical moves are used every single day in all sorts of contexts. This assignment will
challenge you to look beyond the argument itself and focus instead on how the author creates
his/her argument.
Mechanics:
Write a rhetorical analysis of one (1) of the two articles provided on Blackboard. The rhetorical
analysis should be at least 3 pages long but not more than 4. You must include an introduction that
identifies your subject up for analysis (the article), an explanation of the rhetorical concepts that
you will use for analysis (your own definitions of ethos, pathos, and logos), a summary of your
subject, the analysis of your subject (the majority of your paper; where you discuss how the author
used ethos, pathos, and logos), and a conclusion that restates your thesis.
