So there are three questions for this homework assignment. Answer the following questions. The length of the answers may vary depending on the subparts and explanation required for each question. I have attached the book being used for this course which might help to refer and answer the questions. When referred to readings in the question, they are from the book attached.
Questions:
1. What adjustments could be made to Marquis’s “future-like-ours” theory to account for and to delimit the many perceptions on how one might value experience/define a “future-like-ours”? Provide an argument! An argument is a set of claims, with (as much as possible) explicit inferences, outlining how you are proceeding from claim to claim to arrive at a conclusion (a conclusion, which you should aim to be plausible, but need not necessarily believe).
2. Articulate and attempt to problematize (provide three arguments not used by Glover himself in the reading to problematize) (i) Glover’s distinction(s) between environmental genetic alteration,
eugenic programs, and genetic engineering; (ii) between “negative” and “positive” genetic engineering; and (iii) between genes that are “mistakes” and enhancements.
3.(i) Articulate Habermas’ argument about the difficulty of “appropriating one’s self or personal identity” in the case of positive genetic engineering. (ii) Explain whether and why you think “Defending Posthuman Dignity” provides arguments to remedy Habermas’ worry.
