Provide a scholarly description of your proposed area of interest for your DNP project.

Present your PICOT question in a complete sentence and then break down each component: P =, I=, C=, O=, T=.

The PICOT question should be something that can be done over a 6-week time period, practical, and realistic for your clinical practice setting.

Your PICOT question cannot be education-based, i.e. educating nurses or focusing on educational theory or method, rather, it should focus on a clinical practice change that is based on the evidence.

Remember, you are not generating new knowledge, you are translating knowledge (evidence) to practice.

Think about what variables you will be focusing on and pick something that can be measured over a 6-week time period.

All DNP projects evaluate the measurement of results or outcomes of an intervention (clinical practice change) with traditional practice. You will learn more about this in Week 5.

· Consider how you will evaluate your clinical practice change.

o Look at KPI dashboards in your department to see what metrics your organization utilizes to measure the problem that you plan to address with your DNP project.

o Think about benchmarks, NDNQI data, etc.

Be sure to include at least two peer-reviewed references from within the past 5 years.

Scholarly Project Topic:

An exercise program to reduce depressive symptoms among adult age 35-50 years compare to non-exercise adult within period of six weeks.

Questions

1. Provide a scholarly description of your proposed area of interest for your DNP project.

· I would like to implement an exercise program with people identified to have a score of 9 and above on the PHQ-9 screening tool. Several research shows that exercise plays a role in the reduction of depressive symptoms.

2. Implementing an exercise program with adults 30 to 65 years old, will reduce depressive symptoms by 10-25% within 6 weeks.

3. PICOT

· Among adults ages 30 to 55 years old , will the implementation of an exercise program compared to no exercise program reduce depressive symptoms within 6 weeks

· P : African American ages 30 to 55

· I : exercise program

· C : no exercise program

· O: reduction in depressive symptoms

· T : 6 weeks.

4. Variables focus on : PHQ-9 scores, exercise session and depressive symptoms

5. Evaluate your clinical practice change : Analysis of pre PHQ-9 score and Post PHQ-9 score

It sounds like they want me to look at an organization and see how my project is being addressed there. So depending on where I plan on implementing my project, my plan is to use church , I plan to say that the organization has no metrics for measuring depressive symptoms and that is why I inclined to conduct my project there.
