Template – How to develop a case study

NOTE: This is only an example to give a structure to your case study. Your grades will NOT be based on this template. Treat this template as a guide ONLY. You can add extra information as per the criteria given on D2L. This template is useful for your case study 2 and case study 3.

1. Introduction and setting the scene: Importance of topic that you have selected

2. Discuss the Industry, organization and department to whom the case is relevant – The industry this company relates to; how big is this company in-terms of employee strength and financial performance

3. Define the problem. This is going to provide contextaround your case study and make your story more compelling. Here are some examples of questions you should ask your client:

• What challenges are you facing?Investigate the symptoms that are visible on surface
• Because of these challenges, how is your business/department/ organization impacted? Investigate if these challenges are interconnected?
• Identify the key issues and causes of these issues
• Us the tools that you have learned in problem identification to assess the actual causes of the problem

4. Analysis and the decision: Analyse the whole situation and make the decision to address the problem identified in item-3 (above). Discuss your CI tools to resolve the problem(Ref to question for case study 2 and 3 – the question is asking you to use which CI tools? The blue, Red and Green Options), why is this tools used; how will this tool benefit the organization/customers etc. Think about alternative options!

5. Include the facts – Turnover rates/training methods/any other document that is relevant to identify the problems and support your solutions for the identified problems. Attach relevant evidence in the appendix section

6. Suggest recommendations. Check if these recommendations are specific enough to address the identified problem/issue discussed in item 3 (above). Which recommendations are for short term – incremental improvements and which recommendations are for long term (continuous improvement)

7. If these recommendations are implemented properly, what end result will you see out what will be the outcome?

8. Formatting: All text double spaced, free line in between paragraphs and before next (sub)heading – Heading 1: Calibri, 12, bold; – Heading 2: Calibri, 12, italics; – Heading 3: Calibri, 12; – Text: Calibri, 11; – Bullet points for unnumbered lists; – Numbers for numbered lists with letters as sub-listings.

Your case should ideally be around 2-3 pages (without cover page and appendices). The flow of paragraphs is logical and coherent without spelling and grammar mistakes.

9. Since you have to work in teams. Please make sure to attach a table on who has worked on which section.
