Annotated Bibliography (10%)

Using the Library databases or Google Scholar, identify and read three academic sources that are relevant to your topic and research question.

For each of these three sources, write +/-300-words-long annotations (total = approximately 900 words not including references).

Content and organization

One annotation is one-two paragraphs that include the following components: 1. Brief summary of the main ideas of the source

Please remember to follow the structure of the summary: an introductory sentence that includes the source title, information about the author, and topic; explanation of the main points and findings of the source; and a concluding sentence that indicates the main argument of the source.

2. Evaluation of the source. To evaluate quality, authority and relevance of the source, please consider the following points:

– Purpose, audience and genre
– The author(s)’ opinion and stance. Is the author biased in any way?

– The publisher: Is it a university? The publishing company that publishes scholarly sources? An academic journal?

– The author’s credentials: Is the author a journalist? A professor? An artist? Does the author have other publications?

– Factuality/accuracy: Does the source include statistics, graphs/tables/charts? Does the source have references and in-text citations to other academic sources?

– Organization: Does the source include components of an academic article, such as abstract, literature review, and methodology?

3. Explanation why this source will be useful for your research.
Rather than providing generalized statements, such as “This article will be of great help to my research”, provide a brief and specific explanation of why it is useful and how you might use it.

General Requirements

– Follow academic conventions, that is paraphrase, use properly formatted APA in-text citations and references;

– Follow structural patterns, that is use reporting verbs and framing statements, and provide transitions/connections of the ideas between and within the paragraphs.
