For this Assignment you will search resources to support your Case Study Child and Family. You will select resources or ideas to help strengthen your child’s ability to be successful at school and home. The goal is to eliminate the challenging behavior and to replace it with prosocial skills and coping mechanisms.

These are only few examples. You selection will depend on your child’s needs and the needs of the family. The family resource should reflect needs that are specific to home life challenges. If your child is fictional do you best to decide on one based on the information you have been given.

This is your chance to explore a website designed to support teachers and families in supporting challenging behavior and in creating environments and developing practices that support healthy social and emotional development in all children.

Overview:

1. For this assignment you will write an introductory Needs Statement about the needs of your case study child at home and school. Your Case Study 1 assignment reflection and analysis will help you write this summary. When writing this statement reflect on the question below. “What support/skills does your Case Study child need to learn to be successful and to eliminate the challenging behavior? ”

2. Second, you will investigate The Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL Website.

This site houses evidence based practices for teachers working with children with challenging behaviors and their families. Before you select a resource spend time getting to know the website, how it is organized. Review several resources before making your final selection.

3. From the CSEFL site you will then select a total of four (4) resources. Pick two (2) that you would use to build on your Case Study Childs’ skills at home and two (2) to support your Case Study child’s skills in a school setting. Select the resources for this assignment from the following areas on the CSEFEL website:

1. Family Tools

2. What Works Brief

3. Practical Strategies

NOTE: If you would like to pick one (1) resource from another site or book send me an email with the source. I will look it over to ensure it meets the criteria for this assignment. If is does then you will only need to find three (3) resources from CSEFL.

Directions:

I. Needs Statement: Write an introductory statement about the identified needs of your case study child and family. Include information on the behaviors that are being observed with your child at home and school and the possible unmet needs or lack of skills leading to the behaviors. Hint: reference information from your Case Study 1.

II. Classroom: Look at the CSEFEL website

and find at least one (2) classroom practices that you would use in the classroom to support your case study child. For each resource address the following bullets:

Give a summary of the document (it’s ideas/suggestions).
Write why you selected this resource. Write the skill that you are hoping to promote with your Case Study Child through this resource.
Give an example of how you would use this resource with this child in a classroom setting.
Include the name of the document where you found the idea and where it can be found on the website (e.g. “What Works Brief,” “Helping Children Learn to Manage Their Own Behavior”).

NOTE: Since some of you have not observed this child at school you will need to do you best imagining this child’s challenging behaviors in a classroom setting. The same is true if you are unsure of their behaviors at home.

III. Family: Look at the CSEFEL website

and find two (2) resources/handouts that you believe will be helpful to your case study child’s family . For each one:

Give a summary of the document (it’s ideas/suggestions).
Write why you selected each resource for the family, include any cultural or home considerations. Write a skill that you are hoping the family will promote with the child through this resource.
Give an example of how the family will use the resource at home.

Include the name of the document where you found the idea and where it can be found on the website (e.g. “Family Tools,” “Tips on Helping Your Child Build Relationships”).
Writing Instructions
Write 1 detailed and well-articulated paragraph style response for the Needs Statement and each of the resources.
Typing Requirement: The paper needs to be typed on WORD (docx) (so I can give feedback within the paper if desired). Use 1.5-2.0 spacing and 11-12 font.
Length: Length of assignment minimum of 3 pages and maximum of 4.
Organization: label each section (Section I, II & III). Type out or copy and paste each question before writing your response. This helps me with grading and I increases the probability that the question will be fully addressed. Write in essay style, no bullets, use proper grammar.
Cite your sources and create a reference list.
Submit: into submission box. Due: November 1st at 11:59 p.m.
