As you can see in Modules, each module has a project for you to complete and submit. There are a variety of options as to author and story among each module and you are allowed to select one that interests and intrigues you. Remember, pick just ONE option under ONE author/subject. Do not do more than one option under one author – it won’t be acceptable. If an option specifies it is a “creative option” review the specific instructions in addition to the requirements below = if it says it is a power point option, follow the requirements for power point.
If you have questions, ASK.
Here are some very basic guidelines to help you plan for these assignments; however, you will no doubt have further questions about these. I encourage you to post your questions in the “Ask the Professor” Discussion, rather than emailing me, so that everyone can benefit from your question and the answers I, as well as your classmates, give you.
Because this is an upper level literature class, and it has prerequisites of composition courses ENG111 and ENG112, it is expected that you are familiar with MLA formatting and citation and you are expected to use it. If you need a review, click on this link: http://www2.lib.unc.edu/instruct/citations/
If you need a review of how to write a literary analysis, review the assignment in Module 2 or here: https://youtu.be/ho_VCSlzot4
There are also many handbooks and guides to MLA formatting and citation on the internet and in bookstores as well as in the tutoring center, so do not hand in work that is not correctly cited as this will lower your grade.
These are the fundamental guidelines for the assignments:
LENGTH: All written responses to the questions should be an essay of three or more full pages, PLUS the Works Cited page (4 minimum).
FORMAT: All power point or creative options should be at least eight slides long, NOT including the title slide or Works Cited slide. Power Point is a visual medium, so you must include illustrations and cite them. Instructions for citing illustrations are in Module 2. If you fail to correctly cite illustrations, this is plagiarism.
STYLE: Please see in Module 2 for descriptions of how to write a literary analysis before you begin your projects. CONSIDER WHAT YOU LEARNED IN ENG111 AND ENG112, THE PREREQUISITES FOR THIS CLASS.
Rubric for assessing Module Projects: Points possible: 75
Projects will be assessed as follows:
Essay options:
Creative options:
PowerPoint is a visual presentation medium. Do not hand in a PPT of just text. Do not use clip art to illustrate – look for quality illustrations to support your presentation.
Points can and will be taken off for anything missing in the above.
If it appears that you have ignored these guidelines and rubric and handed in something well below the standards, you may receive zero points for the assignment as points are not earned for handing in just anything. It is essential that you follow instructions and achieve the learning outcomes for the Module. These assignments are an assessment of your learning.
Please follow instructions carefully and ask questions about assignment options well ahead of time!
