Ethics and Professionalism Cover Letter Assignment

Introduction
It is important to have a well-formatted up-to-date cover letter when seeking employment, volunteer work, or internships and placements.
Assignment

When you are applying for a job or placement, your cover letter MUST be individualized for the position in question (you must reference the position in question, address the letter to the company’s HR person, etc). Therefore, this cover letter will be a draft that you can modify when applying for an actual position. You may start your cover letter as follows:

Dear Sir/Madam,
Please accept my application for a position at your organization. As you can see from my attached resume, I believe I would be an excellent candidate for this role.

You can then go on to explain the highlights of your accomplishments and skill set. Your cover letter should fit on one page. Your resume should incorporate the principles discussed in class and in your textbook in. Please consider the following checklist when preparing your resume:

Professional Appearance:
• Inviting to read
• Easy to read
• Enough free space for easy reading
• Appropriate margins
• Professional layout and formatting
• Free from spelling and grammatical errors
• Uses language that is relevant to the field of Behavioral Science

Organization
• Stays within one-page limit
• Appropriate and clear use of heading
• Includes running head and page numbers

Contact information
• Name, address, telephone number, and email address are provided at the top of your resume
• Information is presented in a way that is clear and appropriately distinct from the rest of your resume (e.g., font, size, bold)

Professional Objective
• Professional objective is presented as a clear and concise statement

Education
• Begins with most recent experience and with projected date of graduation
• Levels of education listed include name and location of institution
• Includes awards, honors, other recognition of distinction

References
• Includes the names of two professional references
• Information about reference (name, position, contact information) is clearly indicated must be Canadian Autism workforce

Your cover letter must be typed.
Your cover letter must fit on one page.

This assignment must be submitted as a hard copy in class. Late Assignments will be penalized five percentage marks per day (including weekends) up to 10 days past the due date. After the 10 day period, the student will be granted a “0” on that assignment, unless alternative arrangements have been made with the faculty. Assignments will not be accepted after the last day of the semester’s classes regardless of the due date.
