Write an individual essay about one of the films you chose for your group project. Apply the sociological imagination and. at least one of three main paradigms in sociology, as well as “essentialism” and “social construction,” “assimilation,” and “internal colonialism” to your analysis of the film. Discuss how the difference between “stereotypes” and “social patterns” are being employed in the story. What does this film tell us about society? Please do not spend your paper summarizes the film. Your paper should consider what groups the characters belong to and how that informs their perspectives, what time period (sociohistorical context), and who the intended audience of the film by the film director, etc.
Apply your textbook, class lectures, and class films. Outside sources are welcomed but ONLY in addition to your required class textbook, lectures, CANVAS posts, and class films. You will be required to have a bibliography (or works cited page). Your sources must be cited in the APA format.”

Sociological research: uses a rigorous, methodological system of empirical data gathering.
The scientific method involves developing and testing theories about the world based on empirical evidence. It is defined by its commitment to systematic observation of the empirical world and strives to be objective, critical, skeptical, and logical. It involves a series of prescribed steps that have been established over centuries of scholarship.(Lumen Learning, 2011).
3.How Sociologists Examine Culture
Sociologists engage in the systematic study of social life and culture in order to understand the causes and consequences of human action. The field of sociology examines the structure and processes of traditional cultures as well as modern, industrial societies. Sociologists look at culture, social structures (groups, organizations and communities) and social institutions (family, education, religion, etc.) affect human attitudes, actions and life-chances.
Sociology examines both qualitatively and quantitatively (as we saw last week in looking at “Research Methods.”) in trying to understand “society.” Within a field, there are particular theoretical perspectives (e.g. structural functionalism, social conflict theory and symbolic interaction, for example). *Culture* is an area of study in the field of sociology (such as socialization, deviance, inequality, health and illness, family patterns, social change and race and ethnic relations all are). Combining theoretical perspectives with empirical research allows students an opportunity to develop new insights and a different perspective on their own lives. By doing so, we can understand everyday social life as social patterns of interaction and constant presence of social change.

There is a field in sociology called, “Cultural Sociology.” For sociologists, Culture is analyzed and understood as the ways of thinking and describing, acting, and the material objects that together shape a group of people’s way of life.
Sociologists define culture is a complex system of values, beliefs, language, customs, and practices collectively defined, agreed upon and practiced by a group of people. Culture consists of non-material and material objects.
