MEDS2005 Integrated Assessment 2020

Activity: You will create a scenario that is in your future. It will be a scenario that confronts your “wicked problem” using the knowledge that you will have gained through decades of working in the medical sciences.

This is a written and visual task that is individually assessed. You should complete the proforma that has been created below.  You can hand draw/write or use editing/processing programs as you like.

Task: It is the year 2050 and you have lived through a number of advances in modern medicine.  As a Medical Science graduate, this has been of considerable importance to you.

Part A: Using the storyboard template (below):

1. Create a scenario and a character (based on your wicked problem) who currently lives in the year 2050 (draw this in box 1 and 2).
2. Introduce the science/technology/idea that is now possible/available/being developed in 2050 (as part of your scenario). This will likely stem from a “gap” in the current literature based on your wicked problem (draw in box 3 and 4).
3. Finish with how the implementation has impacted your scenario/character. Is it better or worse (draw in box 5 and 6)?
4. Add a sentence or two under each storyboard to explain/describe the drawn box.

Part B: Write a 300-word (max) summary (using the template below) that considersthe following.  You should remember that technology is NOT perfect.

1. Consider the implications that this science/technology might have on the world – does it make it better or worse? What risks are there?
2. Are there unintended consequences (politics, money, water availability etc.) that might be foreseen/unforeseen?
3. Explain how someone in 2050 might adapt if the access to your technology was not equitable, or their access to this technology was removed by forces out of their control.
4. How does this change the way that we should think about developing new technology? What additional considerations should there be, outside medical sciences?

What to submit:Pages 2-6 below (storyboard, summary, reference list and marking rubric). Ensure that your SID is noted on the first page (storyboard) for your submission.
