Musical experience report
For this assignment, you must write a brief essay (3–5 pages double spaced) detailing your experience viewing a musical performance and describing the music you hear using terms and ideas from the course. While in-person concerts will not be available this semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many performers are finding new ways of reaching audiences by recording or live streaming performances. You will find a list of such performances on Canvas under the resources tab, but you should feel free to choose a performance from outside of this list as well. In your report, you should address the following: (1) Describe your expectations about the performance before listening. How does the performance meet or contradict those expectations, (2) Describe the music featured in the performance.What genre/style does it belong to?(3) Focus on at least one–two piecesand describe in more detailusing terms and concepts from the course. (4) How does the music from this performance fit within the units of our course or does it not? What kind of unit might it fit within? (5) How do you think COVID and our current global moment is shaping the course of music?
