This is a project where you research a current business firm, your choice of which firm, and you study the firm from the market and industry perspective. The idea is apply what you are learning (theories, models, principles) to a real world situation, to see what you can learn, and share it with us, your class peers.
Outline
1. Review the attached file Research Project 102 SU20.docPreview the document
2. This file gives broad guidelines for the project. After your review, start some research using our COM library databases. (Links to an external site.)
(Links to an external site.)3. You will find tools to learn more about how to do research on that site, and it has access to more resources to ask a librarian for help.
4. The project will involve several steps (assignments) to completion. The first step will be to create a concept map outlining some of your thoughts and research about what you are finding, how the ideas link together and what you might want to share with the class.
For instance, in the Lumber Liquidators video, we learned about a commodity type product, operating in a perfectly competitive market industry structure (versus, monopolistic competition, or oligopoly, or monopoly). We also learned how they seemed to have an advantage over their competitors, which was giving them economic profits (higher than normal in this industry, compared to their competition.)
Which firm to you want to explore? What type of product are they selling (focus on one product if they sell many products in different markets)? How are they changing giving the current circumstances of Economic Shock of Pandemic? What can you learn about their current situation, and what do you think is relevant to share with the class? How does it apply to our course content and learning overall, and why should we care?
Create a concept map (see the handout previously provided herePreview the document) to share in a peer review group in class. Take a picture of your concept map, and write a brief one page summary of what you are thinking about studying and what you have found so far. Submit both for this part of the assignment. Here is the Concept Map Assignment
