Reviewing Case and Using Social Work Theories

This is a social work paper. The assignment is to review the case study for Maria and using a theoretical analysis of the person’s development and behavior . This is your opportunity to demonstrate an ability to critically utilize theory to derive a theoretically-informed understanding of development and behavior across the life course. Select two theories (one page for each theory) and personal reflection (one page)
There are 2 parts to the theory analysis:

a) Use Kohlberg Moral Development and Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory to the Maria’s “case”, and detail specific ways in which it helps to explain the person’s development and behavior.

a) Provide a critique of the theory for the case:

a. Offer a rationale for the two theories – why did you think it was the best one for understanding your interview subject?

b. Describe limitations of the theory for understanding the case — in what ways does the theory fall short in explaining this particular person’s development and behavior?

One page for each theory.

1) Reflection of Personal and Professional Insights Gained – One page for reflection

The second section of the assignment is a reflection on personal and professional insights gained from the interview experience.

In completing this section, students might consider: personal assumptions coming into the interview and how they were confirmed or disconfirmed; how the interview experience affected personal views of older adults and the aging process; ways in which the interview experience was personally challenging.

In terms of professional development as a social worker, students could reflect on ways their understanding of clinical terms such as “starting where the client is”, “self-determination”, “person-in-environment”, etc., has changed, insights gained about how people integrate and make meaning of their life experiences, the utility of theory for understanding human development and behavior.
