The role of change management is very important to a company. A company I work for went through changes for a few years. Many people lost their jobs due to management trying to cut cost. it was communicated those positions were no longer needed because of technology changes and how things are more efficient with technology. Put when they technology failed they brought on a few temporary workers to do the job. I understand they were looking at the bottom line of the company but I think more research should have been done on all levels. Letting people go with so much experience to say a dollar cost more in the end. I believe that should have really found our about the processes people were doing and then try to find a way to streamline it with the people help. Instead they just got rid of whole departments.

The person that lead the company in this decision left the company and some of the changes that were implement was sort of reversed and they contracted some of the previous workers back.

The role of change management is very important to an organization due to many reasons. I have been with the company I work for for many years and have been through many different change initiatives and programs. One of the biggest and most resent was when we started the Lean Six Sigma. When the company first went to Six Sigma they would tell us about Toyota and how they created this system to increase productivity by eliminating waste. Being in the operations part of the telecom company, the biggest change we initially experienced was that we lost a lot of great engineers and experience to the program. Many engineers and managers went off to become a black belt and work on projects for two years. Then there were also green belts, but eventually they allowed the green belts to stay with in their current jobs and organizations. Over recent years the Lean Six Sigma went into the background and now we are using an Agile methodology and process flow. I like it better than being strictly in Lean Six Sigma, because in Six Sigma there were all these green and black belts running these projects, but at the end of the day they still came back to us operations to do the work and get the data. So for us in operations it did not seem to be efficient, it caused us more work that it was worth.
