The Use of Dude

Prior to entering this discussion, read Keisling’s article, “Dude” (2004), and watch The Evolution of Dude
(Links to an external site.) (Okrent, 2015). Your initial post needs to be a media artifact that involves some use of the word dude. Include a brief (one to two paragraphs if written; one to two-plus minutes of media) analysis of your artifact in view of the concepts discussed in the Kiesling article, the Okrent video, and your own experience as well. What are the contexts of the usage? Support your claims with at least one example from the required materials and/or other scholarly and/or credible sources, including a link to video. Properly cite any references. Do not hesitate to mention and share links to other videos you find. Describe how they do or do not illustrate Keisling’s arguments. Make direct reference to the article and commercials in your posts. Guided Response: Review several of your peers’ posts, and respond to at least two classmates’ posts, one of your choice and another with the fewest responses, by Day 7. Respond in a substantive manner, and provide recommendations to extend their thinking. In your response posts, Mention aspects of the artifacts, Okrent video, and Keisling’s article that you and your classmates did not discuss. Do not simply reiterate your classmates’ statements. Can you add anything to their analyses? Do their artifacts differ significantly from yours? Support your claims with examples from the required materials and/or other scholarly sources. |
