You will write brief papers in response to a series of questions for each of the two required recorded productions for this semester. Your answers should be brief, but concise. You do not need to put your answers into paragraph form. The assignments should hit word minimums, but should be no more than five double-spaced pages, 12 point font.
Assignment 1: Method in the Message: A Midsummer Night’s Dream DUE: 7/5
1) Choose two moments from the production that you felt communicated the show’s meaning strongly. Write two paragraphs, one on each moment, (250-500 words each) describing a) what you took to be the meaning of the moment and b) an in-depth description of the acting (expressions, voice, gestures), staging (where the actors’ bodies are in the space), costumes, lights, sound, and set in the moment and c) how did those production elements lead you to the meaning? In other words, what did these elements communicate to you and how did you know?
2) Based on these moments (and any others) what overall message or question do you believe the production was trying to communicate to the audience? What production element(s) helped communicate that message the most clearly? How did they get that message across? (250-500 words)
So, 750-1500 words total.
Grading
You will be graded on a scale of 1-100 according to the following areas:
