Have you ever heard of Trinity Industries Inc.? In this essay I’m going to be reviewing the history of this company. Trinity Industries Inc centers its trade around the tenants of the Dow Theory, which are industrials, energy, and transportation. Trinity Industries Inc is a diversified industrial company that provides rail transportation products and services across North America. The firm is based in Dallas and operates in five principal business segments the rail route, rail car leasing, and management group, inland barge group, construction products group, and the energy equipment group (Krupala, 2019). The firm was started in Dallas by Bender. C and Wallace Ray back in 1933, who were engineers. The company was then known as Trinity Steel. During this time, the company had less than twenty employees and focused on the production of butane tanks working from a barn.

In 1958 the company joined forces with a Dallas Tank production firm expanding its revenue stream to two and a half million. As the company expanded, there was a need to expand the work force to two hundred. The company concentrated on manufacturing big tanks that allowed it to venture into the petroleum business that refined fuel (Heilmann, 2017). In order to increase capital, the company expanded its investments to include leasing trucks. However, as the company expanded, the market became more aggressive, causing the company to decline in 1957 steadily. This caused Trinity steel and the Wallace development to unite to form what is now known as trinity industries Inc allowing it to remain relevant in the market.

Over the years, the firm diversified and expanded, by accruing land of up to a hundred and fifty acres next to the international airport in Dallas. In 1971 the company acquired its first piece of real estate that was renovated and enhanced the structural functions. Some of the firm’s completed real estate ventures include the Pennzoil building, the New York trade center, and the Texas state stadium. The company didn’t stop; it started to venture into rail vehicles alongside leasing trucks (Lu, Han & Zhou, 2018). The company worked with other companies such as Car of Fort rail cars to produce completely covered rail vehicles before merging. In 1980 industrial and transportation industries had seen many companies merge, causing lessened charges of tools used by adding metal for piping. By the end of 1980, Trinity Industries had produced covered and open hoppers, rail vehicles, and tanks to transport products such as coal, petroleum, and chemicals, among other commodities in various cities such as Texas and Oklahoma.

The firm continued to expand into production containers to store fertilizers, nuclear waste, and petrol through the acquisition of plats that were metal fabrication firms.  In 1994  the company acquired rail car designs that turned it into the largest railcar producer. These acquisitions made trinity industries Inc continue to expand, employing roughly ten thousand employees and opened branches in different areas outside of Dallas, such as Mexico. In the late 2000s, the company sold some of its acquisitions to international railway systems.

Evaluation wise Trinity Industries has a low price to growth ratio, which compensates for price-earnings and indicates a rather cheap evaluation of the company. The director Brandon Bo has been growing his holdings of the firm quite significantly in January 2020. Recent purchases have taken his personal position in the firm to over twenty-five million shares with a market value of over five hundred million dollars. The director of Trinity Industries Inc is estimated to have a net worth of roughly 1.5 billion dollars, while Trinity Industries Inc have grown their market cap to 2.56billion dollars (Lu, Han & Zhou, 2018). The firm’s profit margin stands at 9.19%, which is better than the industry average of 2.4 percent. In terms of growth prospects, the firm is forecasted to show quite a strong growth in earnings per share, which will mark a trend change from the negative performance, which has played the past five years. The fundamentals suggest that Trinity Industries Inc has great potential while the technical is a bit uninspiring. What is exciting, however, is the change in leadership and deeper investment by the likes of directors like Bo.
