Why body cameras are good for public

RESEARCH PROJECT (20%)

You will work on a research project with a group to improve your skills in doing research, collaborating, presenting, and submitting a research paper. Groups will be formed within the first THREE WEEKS of the course. Each group will be composed of TWO members and submit their research project topic on Canvas for instructor’s approval. Your topic can be related to current issues surrounding policing, challenges, and best practices (i.e., community policing, best practices in policing, the use of force, etc.).

Many parts of the criminal justice system are challenged every day in the media and other outlets. Students in this course will be required to identify issues, problems or questions suggested by the instructor. Students will be required to write a short paper examining the assumptions, propositions or hypotheses that are associated with the principle issues, problems or questions posed by their topic and must summarize and discuss empirical research evidence that helps to clarify the issues, address the problems, and answer the research questions. This assignment will require students to become familiar with peer-reviewed research publications and empirical research sources in gathering the evidence needed to complete the assignment.

Research Paper assignment should be 8-10 pages in length, not including the title page and research bibliography. All research papers must be double-spaced and must have a title cover page and a research bibliography on a separate page. The paper should include at least five scholarly citations (peer-reviewed articles). You should follow APA formatting and citation guidelines. Be sure also to include “CCJ 320 Research Paper” in the subject heading. (Please see the Course Schedule for the due dates). Research paper assignments should be submitted on Canvas.
